Unlocked Logo After a few months of preparing and planning, Nate Seadore and I are thrilled to co-lead and have Unlocked (faith-based group counseling) up and going! You see, Nate and I go way back, over a decade ago he was one of my interns!  Even then, he and I had a similar approach to counseling as a ministry. We view ourselves as people in need of more and more grace. A grace that can then overflow to others. Pair that with our belief that every person has something to offer others, the natural result is that we enjoy spending a big chunk of our time in a group setting.…

Our Advent Conspiracy is to worship fully, spend less, give more, and love all. Below are suggestions from our people of simple ideas that help us spend less and even give more during this season to prepare for the coming of Christ. Maybe there’s some ideas that would help your preparation as well! 1. Organize a prayer walk in your neighborhood. 2. Make dinner for your parents once a month at your house. 3. Deliver books to library patrons who are homebound. 4. Make/Bake personal gifts for teachers. 5. Take pictures for families. 6. Write your sponsored child and have the kids draw a picture for them.…

Guest Blogger: Pastor Dan- More Than a Map

map  Put a white pin near where you live and a red pin for someone who needs Jesus. On the surface, it’s a map of Omaha. You can find Dodge, and 80 and 680. You can locate where the zoo is and where King of Kings is. It’ll show you where you can find a park or a bike trail. But it’s much more significant than any of that. It’s actually a revelation. Not like the book with crowns and dragons and weird heavenly beings that our minds can’t comprehend. But this map is a revelation. You see, it shows us (reveals to us) where Jesus in on His mission.…

Welcome Vicar Matt

Today’s blog comes from our new Vicar Matt Lytikainen who started this week! Be sure and welcome him and his wife Nyssa when you see them in the halls at King of Kings! Below is a blog Matt wrote about himself! 11075076_2711426225568_7898713868347375889_n When I was first introduced to the Saturday night service some weeks ago, I thought of this passage from the Bible: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles (Heb 12:1). I am truly surrounded by a tremendous group of people!…

Student Edge in Guatemala! UPDATE: “God is doing more than we could ever ask for!”

42554 If you’ve been following the blog from our Student Edge team in Guatemala, you’d know that God is doing amazing things there through our mission team. Here is an excerpt of their blog post from June 8th written by Ashley Aamot: “Once we got to Calderas, we split into two groups (each with a translator and either Pastor Rafael or his wife) and went into the community and visited people in need. The photo (above) is of a woman named Wendy (just like one of our leaders! Coincidence, I think not) who fractured her foot. We asked her if she had anything else she would like us to pray for and she said that she was struggling to breathe and her lungs hurt.…

Student Edge in Guatemala!

5180   A passionate group of King of Kings Sr High students are currently ministering to a small village in Guatemala! The students are primarily focused on praying with and evangelizing to the Guatemalan people. Kids Kount raised $500 and LWML granted $125 so that team could purchase groceries and distribute them to people in the area who are in need. Keep the team in your prayers as God moves through these students and pray that many would come to know and love Jesus in Guatemala. Check out the team’s blog as they keep us updated about their trip! https://www.prayingpelicanmissions.org/journals?tripid=5180  …

(Art)Work

T
mlhis famed image of Martin Luther (1483–1546) is from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472–1553). Through their personal friendship, Cranach was Luther’s unofficial “portraitist.” While serving in Wittenberg, Cranach produced paintings, woodcuts, and engravings, both sacred and secular. He utilized his God-given gifts both to create art for the sake of beauty and also to further his Protestant faith. A Lutheran understanding of vocation (calling) recognizes that “serving God” is not simply for professional church workers. By God’s design, we are part of the priesthood of all believers: “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may declare the exellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 1:9).
