Guest Blogger: Lara Ray- Love in the Neighborhood

LOVE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD 2 On Valentine’s Day, King of Kings, in partnership with BRIDGE CHURCH and ABIDE, took to the streets to show a little love to the neighbors who live around the 25th & Fort street area.  Even in the frigid temps faithful volunteers walked the neighborhoods going door to door, handing out care packages, praying with, encouraging and talking with the neighbors.  Many lives were blessed by the personal touch and smiles of familiar neighbors and complete strangers.

Here are a few stories from our friends, Jerome & Brittani who live in the ABIDE Lighthouse in the 25th & Fort Street Neighborhood:

We were able to meet a new family with five kids that had just moved in a couple of months ago on N 25 Ave.…

Next Steps in 2015

10460462_1030492016979836_7473035546790270269_n This weekend Pastor Mark wrapped up his State of the Church message by sharing several dozens of possible Next Steps that you might hear God telling you to pursue this year on your spiritual journey. Perhaps one of these will resonate with you, maybe even more than one. He said when that happens to write it down and go from there. He categorized them all in our Worship-Grow-Serve-Go discipleship strategy starting with Worship. Next Steps in Worship—connecting with God in worship and prayer. Go online and Google Daily Bible Reading Plan and get started. Listen to Christian music on the way to work instead of ESPN or talk show radio.…

Advent Conspiracy Testimonies

From a member of our congregation- On December 6th I was driving on the interstate when I noticed that my car tire was going flat. I pulled off into a tire place where they told me that I needed a new set of tires as I was driving on the second layer of thread. There was no way financially that I could purchase new tires this close to Christmas, so they patched up the bad tire and I said a prayer as I drove off. 18 hours later I am at church and Pastor Mark encouraged us to write down what a need we have.…

Missions Around the World

This fall we have been blessed as a church to see many go forth to travel around the world to help those in need through Christ. We had a team from Omaha travel to Oklahoma, Haiti, and even Israel recently. The Haiti and Oklahoma teams worked to help those in the area affected by tragedy, such as the tornado that struck Moore. The Haiti team bought mattresses for children who did not have a bed to rest on. The Israel team went to God’s Holy Land to learn more about why it is so important for us as Christians to protect it and His people.…

Alpha Celebration

Many weeks of discussion came to a close with a celebration to reflect on what was learned and what the next Alpha will bring. The Alpha celebration brings everyone together for an evening filled with smiles and laughter. A couple people came forward with testimonies about how Alpha has affected them and their lives. One woman said she was brought to Alpha every week by her daughter, because she is unable to drive but wants to be there that badly. Alpha continues to affect millions around the world by bringing them together to learn about life and the Lord. We look forward to seeing both familiar and new faces at the next Alpha series!…

Success and Smiles This Year for ABIDE

What a wonderful season it is! Here’s another awesome update about what our King of King’s family is doing to help those around us this Christmas. Kellie Tagge and Lara Ray delivered gifts and gift cards to ABIDE on Dec. 12, 2014. In total, $4,165 in gift cards alone was given to ABIDE to shop at Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee and Target. That amount doesn’t even include the seven gift cards donated with unknown amounts! Those gift cards will be used to help families during this Christmas time and throughout the year. This generous donation helps those families by empowering them to purchase gifts and necessities for their families as they need.…

Christmas Caroling Brings Season to Life

A group of carolers took to the streets of Omaha Dec. 9 to bring forth Christmas cheer to a neighborhood on 27th Street. Christmas is the season to celebrate and give, and the carolers spread the cheer with songs like, “Jingle Bells” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Teri Roberts, one of the carolers, says right around 25 people came to sing. They broke off into smaller groups, but a few of those groups grew as they went from house to house. “A couple of little girls were watching us come down the street through their front window, and when we got to their house, they joined us and sang with us.” The carolers also prayed for many of those they visited.…

ENOA Donations, Helping Those in Need

This photo only shows about half of what was donated to ENOA (Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging). These goods will be sent to the office to help ensure that aging Nebraskans have access to materials and services. Enough donations poured in that in the end they could barely fit everything onto two pallets that were piled high. ENOA says on its website that, “By creating unique programs that fill gaps in service, ENOA helps older Nebraskans to live more independently, to live with dignity, and to remain for as long as possible in their own homes.” Thank you to all those who donated!…

Guest Blogger: Geri Knight – Are We Serving Like Jesus?

Are We Serving Like Jesus? By: Geri Knight This year I had the opportunity to participate as a parent in our Towel & Basin Faith Legacy Step; a class for parents of 6 year olds. My son is in first grade right now and we are always talking about giving instead of getting. It seems like this is a constant “problem” in society; everything is mine! The reality is that everything is not mine. Everything belongs to the Lord! He gives it all to us for reasons we will never know. That is just a small piece of what parents can learn and then teach their kids after attending our Towel & Basin classes at King of Kings.…
