Welcome Vicar Matt
Today’s blog comes from our new Vicar Matt Lytikainen who started this week! Be sure and welcome him and his wife Nyssa when you see them in the halls at King of Kings! Below is a blog Matt wrote about himself!
When I was first introduced to the Saturday night service some weeks ago, I thought of this passage from the Bible: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles (Heb 12:1). I am truly surrounded by a tremendous group of people! To me, it seems King of Kings is a like storm cloud of potential impact for the kingdom, and I am blessed and humbled to be a part of it as I join you during this year of vicarage.
My name is Matt Lytikainen, and I am married to my best friend and partner in crime, Nyssa. We have been married (drumroll please) for one month, and we’re still not sure if it’s legal in the state of Nebraska to be having as much fun as we are now. We both grew up in Michigan. As for me, I grew up in Grand Rapids, MI and have always lived in the same house, attended the same church, and gone to the same school. I have had a very stable upbringing, and I am very thankful for it.
Paul and Cheri were the two wonderful people who brought me into this world and raised me to be a man with the heart of David; a heart that tries to pursue Jesus with every beat. They raised me and my sister Mallory who is two years younger than I (to the day), and we’ve always been best friends. Another irreplaceable member of the family is our Golden Retriever, Samson.
Ever since I was in 8th grade, I have felt God tugging at me to bring me to where I am today—a mere two years away from being ordained in the LCMS. It started with a job shadowing experience I had with my pastor back home, and it was then that I realized that talking to people about Jesus and preaching his gospel was something I could do for a career. Sign me up!
As tall as I am (6’6”), I have never been a good basketball player, but my favorite sport of all time is golf. I also love sailing and love gliding across the water in my family’s single-sail Sunfish. Reading is also up there on my list, and I love listening to NPR podcasts. My favorite show is This American Life. I don’t watch a lot of TV or movies, but you can be sure if a Pixar movie comes out, I’ll be there on opening night. My favorite movie by them is Wall-E.
I’m sure you’ve now read plenty enough about me, and now I’m excited to meet you! I’m looking forward to it!
