A Teenage Home Where Everybody Wins…and Nobody Kills Each Other
(7th Graders & Parents)
By: Geri Knight
What does a “home” look like today? Does it have a mom and dad, just mom, just dad, Grandparents or maybe an aunt or uncle? It doesn’t really matter who is raising our 7th graders at King of Kings. What does matter is how communication is happening in the home.
A great take away from this retreat was Ty Schenzel’s Legacy Point on deposits and withdrawals. When we deposit into one another we honor them by listening and by doing something unselfish. The opposite is true of our withdrawals; we do something that is dishonoring or selfish. Ty encouraged our 7th graders and their parents to make deposits a lot and to limit those withdrawals.
Our kids are growing up in a society where they can be influenced by actors, musicians, video games, teachers and friends. We, as parents, can talk to our children with respect and teach them to do the same in return. We can encourage them to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and be honorable. Help them to see that Jesus would treat others with respect and love.
