New Creative Intern Yanira Garcia
My name is Yanira Lizet Garcia, although my family knows me as Liz. So, feel free to call me Liz, it’s simple and easier to pronounce. I was born in Michoacan, Mexico and lived there for the first eight years of my life. However, in 1998 my family decided to move to Omaha, NE.
After residing in this beautiful city for fifteen years, I’ve learned to love it and call it home. I feel blessed to be born in a Christian home and raised by wonderful parents who love Christ and have taught me to love and follow Him as well. I am the oldest of five, two sisters and two brothers, which puts me in a position of great responsibility to set a good example for them.
I was the first in my family to graduate from high school and this May I will also become the first college graduate in my family. Pursuing the so-called American Dream has been quite a journey for me but God has been there every step of the way. The Lord has allowed me to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha where I am pursuing a degree in Journalism Public Relations and Advertising and a degree in Latino Latin American Studies.
I truly enjoy both of these fields and I wish to find a career where I can combine both degrees. However, I believe the Lord has a purpose for me so I will go wherever He sends me. So far, I can say that He is opening doors in ways I would have never imagined. One example is being accepted into the Political Journalism Institute through The Fund for American Studies in Washington DC, which starts this summer. In the meantime, I am very grateful to be the new creative intern here at King of Kings and I look forward to the exciting opportunities this internship will bring me.
