Guest Blogger Sam Eesley: First Communion
Today’s guest blog comes from almost 11-year-old Sam Eesley. (Happy Birthday tomorrow!) Sam was one of about 46 students who recently went through First Communion with us. He is in the photo above front row center in the white polo and khakis. Here is his story. (Thanks to Sam’s Dad, Dale Eesley, for the photos!)
Hi, my name is Sam and I am going to tell you about First Communion.
I took the classes with my Dad, other 5th and 6th graders and their parents, and Mr. Mike. We learned about the sacraments and how First Communion reminds us that Jesus loved us so much that He would die for us.
The Seder Meal had some pretty nasty food, but showed us how Jesus and his disciples celebrated Passover and how Jesus is our Passover Lamb. The overnight retreat I went on with the other kids was super fun! We played lots of games, sang, looked up Bible verses and talked about God, ate the best chili ever and watched some kids get baptized in the freezing cold lake.
My First Communion experience was exciting and…….biblical. I had a really nice time.
