Guest Blogger Dave Reddel: Iron Sharpens Iron
Today our guest blogger is Dave Reddel! Dave is a Band of Brothers leader here at King of Kings who helped organized the Iron Sharpens Iron event that took place this weekend. Thanks for sharing your experience from the day Dave!
6:15 am Saturday.
Sitting in my car in the King of Kings parking lot waiting for the building to open.
It was the day of the Iron Sharpens Iron Conference. A lot of preparation and coordination put in by a lot of people to get to this point. I was tired, but glad I had a warm cup of coffee to shake out the cobwebs. The radio played a new song from one of my favorite artists – Jeremy Camp. The chorus was reverberating in my soul long after the song was over:
I wanna be reckless
Cause You are endless
I wanna be shameless
And shout Your greatness
I will not be afraid
To surrender my way
And follow who You are
I wanna be reckless, reckless
“Am I really reckless?” “Am I really shameless?” “Do I want to be?” “Isn’t being reckless… well… rather reckless?”
God moved in many ways that day to show to me and to the more than 400 men and young men in attendance at the Iron Sharpens Iron experience that God indeed is looking for dangerous and reckless men…. men that will live their lives and lead others in such a way that they may are willing to risk it all for the sake of the Kingdom. Not irresponsible actions that destroy… but responsible choices that leave legacies.
The day was filled with nationally known speakers challenging and inspiring us to lead our families, our churches, our neighborhoods and communities in bold fashion for Jesus. Breakout sessions from men’s ministry leaders from across the country, as well as our own Pastor Brad Knorr and our Band of Brothers Network team, were full of information, tools and resources for men. The worship team led by Steve Roberts brought men into the presence of God. The tech team led by Greg Scott flawlessly provided video and audio support all across the building. Unlike any other conference, our BBQ featherbone rib lunch was cooked and served by King of Kings own “Holy Smoker” crew of Pastor Leroy and Greg Oliva.
It was a day filled with seeing so many friends from different towns and cities who are leading men in their communities. A chance to meet new leaders and connect with their visions. An opportunity for the many men of King of King’s Band of Brothers to lead, mentor, encourage and partner with the 400+ men that day and see where God leads.
Iron Sharpens Iron is a day of equipping men with tools and resources that they can use to not only infuse their faith life but equip other men as well. “…So one man sharpens another.” It was an amazing day.
To that…. God – make us reckless.
Reckless in the sense of having as many men and women pursuing a committed focus on discipleship. A reckless desire for intentional discipleship, so that we disciple those who disciple others who disciple others. A reckless understanding of incarnational discipleship that reveals itself in the daily context of the lives of everyone connected with King of Kings.
